“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
I’m starting to think this is one of the hardest principles to learn on the path to peace. When someone wrongs us, our first natural reaction is to fight back. It’s instinct, but unless you’re being mugged, that instinct does you no favors in the real world. Does that mean that we roll over and give in? No. It means we don’t have to fear the battle nor the war because someone bigger than ourselves is doing the fighting.
I’ve learned that over the last 24 days, yes, I said 24 days. I knew it in my head but it never made it to my heart until recently. I’ve learned that my heart has to be in the right place, I move when God tells me to move but other than that, I have to stay in peace and pray that God fights the fight for me.
Some people live in a state of revenge, they feel like they are constantly on the lookout for a way to get someone else back for whatever they may (or may not have) done to them. That is exhausting and will lead you nowhere. God has not called us to a life like that.
God has called us to be still, seek peace and follow him. There are real things we have to do in real situations for example, sometimes legal action is necessary and I get that completely but, that doesn’t need to keep us up all night in worry and fear. Do what you need to do legally and let God soften the hearts of those involved and surround you with supernatural favor.
It’s all easier said than done. I get it. I fail at this all the time. But, thanks be to God for grace and the constant reminder to just be still. At the very least, simply praying before you act brings God into the situation and with God comes the peace you are seeking.
