Sixteen days ago, I decided to become committed to the pursuit of peace in my own life. At the time I began this journey, I was thinking that if I just sought after peace then all the things that are swirling around me right now would come to a screeching halt. I suppose I was a bit optimistic.

The truth is, when I made that commitment, I waged war against the enemy. I have no idea what God has in store for me in this life but I can tell you, Satan has been working overtime to stop it. I am sure many of you feel the same way about your own lives as well.

We have the peace of God inside of us, it is a gift freely given to us. But, it is also a gift the enemy would like to steal. I’m choosing peace, I’m talking peace and I pray to walk in peace every single day, however I am aware of the war raging on in an attempt to take my peace.

As I mentioned earlier, the commitment to walk in the peace of God and pursue that in every area of my life did not settle my circumstances. However, I have learned that the peace of God transcends our circumstances meaning, no matter what the storm looks like that is surrounding us, we can still have peace.

I think that is important. Many people think “if only this would stop” or “if only this person would go away” then there would be peace. Truth be told, we live on a planet populated by humans and I can guarantee you that even if the one person driving you crazy right now does go away, there will be another one sooner or later.

We have to fight to keep our peace amidst the worst of circumstances. Legal issues, divorce, lies, false accusations (or all of the above in my case) are only weapons the enemy forms against you to steal your peace and abundant life Christ died for you to live.

Take heart and remember this, “…no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,  and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord.” Isaiah 54:17

There might be days when it feels like you’re losing the war but we worship a God that is victorious. Peace is worth fighting for and at the end of the day, we’ve already won and the enemy knows it.
