Day 13: Greater Things Have Yet to Come

Greater Things Have Yet to Come

Have you heard the song by Chris Tomlin, God of this City? I was listening to it this morning and it reminded me of something that I thought I would share today.  The chorus of the song is this:

“For greater things have yet to come,

and greater things are still to be done in this city.”

When crazy began several months ago, my pastor said something to me that at the time I thought was weird, he said “whatever you do, don’t let them run you out of town.”

At the time, I thought that was odd. However, many, many months later I realize why he said that. I don’t know about you, but when bad things happen, I have an instinct to just run and hide or runaway entirely. And, if I had the ability, I am not saying I would not have done that.

This morning, while praying about all of this, that song came into my mind. I started listening to it again and it really hit home. It is so easy to see only our small world and forget the big picture. When things go wrong, we focus on those one or two people and forget the world around us.

I could get 1,000 positive e-mails but I guarantee you the 1 negative e-mail will stick in my head. In fact, I can remember many of those specifically over the years.

We do the same thing with our circumstances, they become all consuming. Our vision becomes limited to only our own bad circumstances or situations.

But you know what? If you’re still breathing then God is going to use you. If you are still alive then truth be told, greater things have yet to come.

I tell you the truth, I have no idea what God is going to do in my life right now. I thought I had a plan, I thought I had it all figured out and wouldn’t it be just like God to come along and flip the script?

I’m not in confusion but, I am in that place of realizing that I just don’t need to have it all figured out. I’m in that place of learning how to trust…for real.

God put that song in my heart today because greater things are truly yet to come even in this city. I know that, I’m not running away, if anything, I’m running as David did and I’m facing my giants head on with nothing more than a stone and a sling.

I hope this song blesses you today.
