Day 11: War & Peace…A Reality Check #peace

I’m going to interrupt this series for a bit of a reality check. Back in the day, my youth pastor used to use a phrase, “move-countermove.” Basically, he meant that when you make a move in God’s direction, the devil immediately makes a countermove to throw you off course.

What does that have to do with peace?

Let me say this, if you have decided to pursue peace in your life, there is no doubt that the devil will do everything in his power to throw you off course. You have waged war on the devil. He does not want you to live in peace, he does not want you to enjoy your life and if you give up on your pursuit of peace, he wins.

If you (or I) are going to succeed in this pursuit of peace, we must do it at all costs. Since I have started this journey, crazy things have happened, but I refuse to lose my peace. I’ve spent months reacting with tears, screaming into pillows and being incredibly sick…none of that has worked out very well.

Now, I’m pursing peace. That doesn’t mean it does not hurt, it means that I refuse to react with strife and hate. It is not easy and my natural self fights it, but I have no intention on stopping. Christ died to give me a peace that surpasses all understanding and one way or another, I’m determined to walk in that.

All that is to say, if you’re having one of those “forget this peace thing” moments, don’t give in. You’ve got this, the Peace of God is yours.

(PS. And, yes, I wrote this whole post basically to myself. Today is one of “those” days. So be encouraged, you’re not the only one.)

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
