30 Days to Peace: How to Minimize Strife & Enjoy Your Life

Day 6: Don’t Stay in the Desert

30 Days to Peace: How to Minimize Strife & Enjoy Your Life

If you want to follow along in my 30 day challenge be sure to check out the 30 Days to Peace: How to Minimize Strife & Enjoy Your Life.

When I was younger and stress or strife entered my life, it was typically for a short period of time. I can remember having an argument or two with a friend and few days later it was all over. Now that I’m older, it just isn’t that simple. Sometimes stressful events occur and they flat out don’t go away very easily at all.

How do you deal with stress when it just doesn’t end? I think in some situations, you have to come to grips with where you are in life. Life is a journey and much of it is spent in the desert not the Promised Land. Yes, the land exists and yes, you and I will get there but there is a great expanse between Egypt and the Promised Land and it’s called the desert.

I’m in the desert.

I am surrounded by sand on every side, eating the same food every single day praying that the dry sand will turn into something beautiful sooner rather than later. I know it’s coming, I just can’t see it yet, but, I know it’s there.

Joyce Meyer has taught on this many times and said the journey for the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land was only 11 days. Did you hear that? It was an 11 day journey that took these people 40 years to make!

That sounds crazy but, some of us are no different than the Israelites.

How many people do you know that had something happen to them and they’ve just never let it go? How many of us had something occur as a child and 30 or 40 years later we’re still hanging on to it? How many of us have had bad marriages and decades later are still carrying around bitterness and unforgiveness?

The Israelites roaming around the desert for 40 years when it should have only taken 11 days is no different than some of us holding on to our wounds and bad experiences for years at a time.

I am not saying it is easy to lay it all down, some of us have dealt with horrible things in life. What I am saying is admit where you are right now and determine in your heart to get out of the desert. It’s a learning experience, pray that you learn what God would like you to learn and that he lead you out to the Promised Land.

God is molding you there, where the sun is hot, the air is dry and you have to fully depend on him just to survive, God is there molding you into something beautiful. It hurts, it’s not easy and it’s uncomfortable but not far from the desert is the Promised Land.

The land that is beautiful, full of all that God has prepared for you and you and I are going to make it there. He promises that as long as we press forward and don’t get stuck complaining and griping like the Israelites did.

What has happened to you or I cannot become our identity, let us learn from our own mistakes. Let us learn how to get up not matter how many times we are kicked down. If you’re in the desert, let us learn something here and if you’re in the Promised Land, reach back and help bring the rest of us through.

The bottom line, we have to let go of the past, embrace where we are in this life at this moment and know the best is yet to come.

PS. I want you to know that while I am writing this series publicly, I am writing (or preaching) directly to myself. I am not in any way, writing this as someone who is perfect in any of these areas. I have a lot of pain that I am dealing with both physically and emotionally that I am walking through and letting go of during this process. This blog and this series really is my pursuit of peace. I pray it blesses you as well.

Ahh this post brought back a moment in time when I so filled with anger. I held on to a moment in my life when my step dad had abused my mom and I. At times it had consumed me and it took a long time to get through it, but God has taken that had horrible time of my life and actually taught me some things through it. I think it actually made me a stronger person. I pray God gives you Peace through all of this! I thought you might like this song as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6eDvl4Xbh8
