Christmas is almost here and we’re already breaking out the decorations. My kids and I always make gingerbread houses and all sorts of crafts during this season and today, we decided to kick the season off right with homemade Christmas Trees using Gingerbread M&M’s!
My sons really wanted to make gingerbread cookies this year and using Gingerbread M&M’s took our ordinary gingerbread cookies to the next level.
What You Need:
Icing
Star Shaped Gingerbread Cookies
My boys are so excited about putting up the Christmas tree and the lights this year. I love those things but I love homemade decorations even more. This project is so simple and it’s a ton of fun, my kids truly enjoyed creating our Gingerbread M&M’s Christmas Tree centerpiece.
The M&M’s were easy to spot at my local Walmart, I grabbed a few bags and headed home to work on our craft. The best part about this project is that you can eat it too! Not that we did that, of course….
To make your own Christmas tree decorations, first start by making gingerbread cookies and use star cookie cutters to make the shapes. I substituted 1/4 cup of applesauce in place of the eggs for food allergy reasons. The cookies turned out great and were perfect to decorate!
We used icing to stack the star cookies on top of each other alternating positions to give it the Christmas tree look. Then, using more icing, we put some on the ends and added our Gingerbread M&M’s. For the top of the tree, we added icing and placed our star straight up. It worked perfectly!
Aren’t they gorgeous? Gingerbread M&M’s are perfect for holiday decorating and certainly gave a finishing touch to our Christmas trees!
I didn’t give much direction with our craft project, I let my boys decorate anyway they wanted and they loved it. The Christmas trees make a great centerpiece too, stacked on top of polyfill that I picked up at a local craft store.
He was so proud of his creation!
If you find your M&M’s slipping, simply place your tree in the refrigerator for a few minutes so the icing hardens. After that, you’ll be in good shape! Super cute and festive Christmas trees with Gingerbread M&M’s. Easy & adorable!
